My entrepreneurial spirit emanates from working in my family’s business, Kennel Vet, a pet and animal supply retail store and mail-order company in business since 1971. Kennel Vet was created by my parents and Aunt and Uncle on Long Island, NY by mailing catalogs and shipping goods to pet owners and animal handling professionals long before desktop computers, fax machines and email were common. Today, I manage Kennel Vet’s e-commerce website utilizing the latest in cloud computing technology.
My non-profit experiences started when I was a 6 year old Brownie Girl Scout in Countryside, IL. I continued with Girl Scouts all during my formative years and into High School when it wasn’t “cool” to be a Girl Scout anymore. In conjunction with Girl Scouts and the American Red Cross, I taught swimming, sailing, canoeing, First Aid and CPR, and swimming for the physically and mentally handicapped. As a mother, I volunteered to be a Girl Scout Leader and Troop Service Coordinator which recruited volunteers and focused on keeping girls in Girl Scouts. As you can see, Girl Scouting is an integral part of my background and I’m pleased to be participating in the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts in the United States by attending the celebration in Washington DC this Spring. Over 200,000 girls and adults from around the world are expected to come together on June 9, 2012 for the world's largest Sing-Along at The National Mall in Washington, DC at the base of the Washington Monument.
I have volunteered in other aspects of my life such as in college where I became an Emergency Medical Technician for the Stony Brook Ambulance corps, the Bellmore Merrick Ambulance Corp and the Farmingdale Fire Department. Most recently, I’ve raised over $7,000 for cancer cure research while walking 60 miles, 2 years in a row, as part of the Susan G. Komen, 3 day walk and while participating in a triathlon through the Leukemia, Lymphoma Society, team in training.
I have served in a variety of executive and team lead roles while working within commercial providers of Information Technology and telecommunications solutions such as Motorola, AFFINA, Humanizing Technologies, and Omron Electronics; in management consulting solution providers such as Kurt Salmon Associates and Integrated Project Management; in academic organizations such as Roosevelt University and Capella University.
8 years ago, I decided to make a radical change in my life and leave IT consulting to share my expertise by focusing on being a professional business trainer. My transformation journey led me to live and work for training company in Minneapolis, MN. While I was living in Minneapolis, I became an active member of the IIBA Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter. My presentation during a chapter meeting called “Risk Errors that Can Ruin Your Career” still stands out in chapter member’s minds because I delivered it during a power outage at a chapter meeting. As they say, “the show must go on” and I delivered the speech to approximately 100 Business Analysts while standing on a table in the candle lit hotel conference room.
I am passionate about Project Management and Business Analysis because I believe I was born to be a catalyst and change agent. My mind’s eye quite naturally sees the forest AND the trees. I’m constantly seeking ways to provide more value to individuals, projects, programs and organizations. I am also passionate about being a Co-Active Coach and doing coaching because it accelerates individual and organizational growth by co-actively deepening the learning and forwarding the action. I presently serve as Community Coach Café coordinator through the Chicagoland Coach Federation.
The time I have outside of earning a living and traveling for work and pleasure, I quite naturally devote to Business Analysis and Coaching related activities with like-minded people. My hands-on experience with for profit and not for profit organizations inspires my clients to see their unlimited potential to positively propel themselves and their organizations forward towards excellence.
